Where to stay

Canmore offers over 870 Airbnb listings and 160 hotels. How do you choose the right accommodation for your mountain getaway? Take into consideration your budget, your group size and where you want to be located.

Location

With accommodation options ranging from Dead Man’s Flats, Canmore and Harvey Heights, it’s important to think about if being in walking distance to downtown is important to you. Staying in Canmore gives you fast access to restaurants and shops just steps from your accommodation but you might be dealing with crowds and paid parking. If your looking for a more relaxing stay it is a good idea to book something in Harvey Heights or Dead Man’s Flats where you may feel secluded in a quiet area that’s not busy.

Budget

If your looking to save money when booking your mountain getaway take into consideration a few things:

  1. Typically accommodations located just outside of Canmore are more affordable. For example Harvie Heights or Deadmans Flats. Still close to the heart of Canmore but because these accommodations aren’t within walking distances of main street we see lower rates.
  2. Seasonality. If you want to visit Canmore in the summer or over holidays the rates will be higher. If you book your trip during October-November and March- June we see lower rates.
  3. Weekend rates vs weekday rates. Weekends in Canmore are typically much busier than mid week. If your looking to save some money try to book a mid week trip.

Group size

Traveling with a large group has pros and cons. By booking accommodations for a large group you can all split costs making the trip more affordable. It is also a great opportunity to make memories with your family and friends by staying in a large unit together. With that being said travelling as a couple or a small group gives you many options on where to stay with over 200 two bedroom units in Canmore.

When to book

Now that you know where you want to stay, you need to decide when you book your trip! Think about why you want to visit the Canadian Rockies.

If you looking for winter adventures such as skiing, snow shoeing, wild ice skating, ice climbing or winter hiking the time to visit is from December-March.

If you looking to soak up the warm summer sunshine while hiking, mountain biking, restaurant hopping or paddle boarding the best time to visit is July-August.

If you are booking your trip months in advance the rates may be set higher than if you book the property last minute.

Fall Adventures

Fall is an incredibly underrated time to visit the Canadian Rockies. The transition from lush green to yellow spotted mountains is a truly unique sight to see. The larch tree hikes are the most popular thing to see and do during the fall as the larch trees are the only pine tree to drop their needles. This is also a great time to visit if your looking for cheaper accommodation rates.
